Meeting Vinnie

Manchester, along with the rest of the country/world is having a heatwave at the moment. So a hot night last night, not great for restful sleep, so woke still feeling tired.

Went to pick up Vinnie, our home for the week, from Manchester Camper Hire in Ancoats. He was a very clean and new looking van, sink, fridge, cooker and wardrobe. Then back home to load up and on our way just after 1pm

A three hour drive to South Shields, during which we did most of the Guardian prize crossword.

We are staying in Bents Park, which has been turned into a temporary campsite for the Great North Run weekend. Very lush and green.

We had a short walk to the beach. I went in the sea, up to my knees. Vera went into the sea, up to her toes. The smell of b9arbecuing food was making us feel very hungry.

So it was back to the van where I reheated some of last night's ziti sauce plus pasta. Cooking on two camping stoves, sheer luxury.

Walked into South Shields for a  cheeky pint. Not my normal pre-run behaviour. Not aiming for a good time in the run does have its plus sides
